1. Find a Workout You Enjoy
Exercise is tough, especially if you are not in the best physical condition (yet!) This can make it seem like all kinda of workouts are impossible to enjoy and lead to you having a negative outlook towards exercise. However, once you find some exercises that you find fun, working out will no longer feel like a chore.
How to find a work out you'll enjoy
To start finding exercises you'll enjoy, do a search of the various workout programs and exercise routines that are available. The number of options are insane! You can start by checking out local fitness areas.
There are lots of different types of gyms:
- Your classic gym: complete with treadmills and various workout equipment (Not everyone's favorite)
- Cross fit gyms: these are growing more and more popular. They offer varied workouts and tend to have a more laid back, but as intense as you want to be feel.
- Specialized gyms: examples are yoga, pilates, gymnastics and martial arts. They usually offer classes and some allow "free time" to use equipment at your leisure. The downside, these tend to be more expensive than the other options.
You could also take up active hobbies. Depending on your area, you can take up outdoor hobbies. Hiking, surfing, mountain biking. Anything that gets you outside and moving while having fun is a good thing.
Check out the local parks. Many areas I've lived in have specialized parks and areas for outdoor sports and activities. You can try asking people in your area, or search the different parks on google maps. I click the reviews and look at the pictures to see what type of activities are available around us. These parks offer ultimate frisbee, golfing, fun day hiking trails and even cross-country skiing in the winter.
Just avoid buying any expensive equipment until you know you LOVE the activity and its worth your investment.
Once you’ve done this research, you can then select the ones that seem most fun to you. Then give each of these exercise options a try and stick with the ones that are most enjoyable. By doing this, you will find it easy to stick to your workout routine and maintain a positive mindset while losing weight.
2. Fun in the Kitchen
Food is the area that many people struggle with most when trying to lose weight. It's easy to think about all the delicious foods they will have to give up in order to lose weight. They start to believe that all that’s left is tasteless, unappetizing healthy foods.
So not true! With a little creativity, healthy foods can be tasty and delicious.
Get tinkering in the kitchen and find healthy and nutritious recipes that taste great. (There are thousands all over the web.) There are many websites dedicated to this very subject and you’ll be able to find low calorie, nutrient-packed alternatives to your favorite meals in just a few minutes.
Food is a big deal to me personally. I find that as long as I take the time and effort to make healthy meals I like, then it's easy to forgo the unhealthy foods easily.
3. Question Your Thoughts
Your thoughts can be positive or negative, organized or out of control. When your thoughts start to become out of control and negative, you become bombarded with cruel notions that will hamper your weight loss progress.
This is one the biggest threats to your weight loss success. It is necessary to take time out to collect your thoughts and steer any negative thoughts in a positive direction.
For example, if you find yourself thinking ‘this isn’t working’, question this belief and see if it is really true. It is likely that there are plenty of examples you can find where you have made positive steps on your weight loss journey.
By doing this, you not only prove that the negative belief simply isn’t true but you also have a positive and truthful belief you can replace it with. Over time, this ensures that you do not sabotage your weight loss goals with persisting negative thinking and also builds your positivity levels towards losing weight.
4. Reward Yourself
One of the best but most underutilized ways for staying positive on your weight loss journey is by rewarding yourself. By doing this, you not only get the positive reinforcement that comes with actually losing weight but you also get a more tangible bonus which further builds your positivity.
Your rewards can be anything you want, as long as they don’t sabotage the weight loss progress you have already made. As in.... no, a giant slice of that decadent cheesecake is not a good reward.
Instead think: along the lines of buying yourself a new outfit, treating yourself to a mini-vacation or enjoying a relaxing bubble bath. For big rewards and big goals, keep it posted somewhere visible to help keep you motivated! My favorite Idea is accomplishing a bit bigger goals and rewarding your self with a fit-cation! Yep. A fun and inspirig vacation where you focus on fitness! (Talk about a rewarding experience!)
5. Keep A Weight Loss Success Journal
Having a journal where you can write down your positive achievements on your weight loss Journey is a great motivational tool. To get the most from a weight loss journal simply find a basic journal or notebook and write down one weight loss success that you've experienced in your journal each day.
This journal will eventually compile into a substantial record of your weight loss successes and will provide instant motivation every time you read it. It will also provide you with the positivity boost when you experience setbacks on your weight loss journey and feel like quitting.
By keeping the journal positive, you will actively be trying to keep your mind in a positive. This will take you so far in your weight loss journey!!
Staying positive as you lose weight is very possible. Practice these simple tricks consistently and watch as your attitude towards weight loss improves with each passing day.
